An avid writer and published author, Ellis has worked in acquisitions editing through the University of South Carolina Press and actively writes and edits in her free time. Focused projects have centered around advocacy, South Carolina history/culture, social justice, and ecology of the Carolinas.

Recently, Ellis was featured in an anthology concerning issues of South Carolina, for which she wrote an introduction and assisted in editing.
