(or, About Ellis)

A South Carolina-based cellist, Ellis McLarty shares the intersection of math and music through inventive performance. Broadly, Ellis engages musical audiences with mathematics through pattern-based, logic-driven composition, to foster interdisciplinary connections between thought and sound. Alongside this intersection, Ellis values uplifting diverse voices, and she regularly works with living composers. Recent programming includes works by Caroline Shaw, Jessie Montgomery, and Andy Akiho.

Ellis performs actively as a chamber musician, having worked with the award-winning Callisto and Parker Quartets, among others. Inventive performance extends beyond programming for Ellis; she takes music outside of the concert hall – to schools, concert trucks, parks, city sidewalks, and more – sharing her love of music with all.

A graduate of the Greenville Fine Arts Center and current student at the University of South Carolina (UofSC) School of Music and Honors College, Ellis studies with Claire Bryant and is a member of the UofSC Symphony Orchestra; she is also a student in UofSC’s College of Arts and Science, where she studies mathematics.
